Kao is a junior high school student attending an elite cram school. She shares a close friendship with Nanase, whom she has known since middle school, and the two often pass the time between studies daydreaming about opening their own cafe together. However, their cram school homeroom teacher, Ohno, mocks their aspirations as the "peak of their lives." Furthermore, Kao's mother expresses prejudice against Nanase based on the school she attends. Losing confidence in her friendship with Kao, the protagonist feels overwhelmed - until words from the manager of a cafe they visit together help lift her spirits.
